A Planned Honeymoon Makes For A Great Honeymoon

By: Mark Walters

Honeymoons are too often an afterthought to the planning of the wedding itself, when, as far as memories go, they are of equal, if not greater, importance. It's a time that you'll never forget for the rest of your life, so think carefully about honeymoon ideas and honeymoon locations.

First decide what your objectives are for the time you'll be away and what you absolutely can't do without. Where do you want to go? Do you want to relax or be active? What are your priorities? Beautiful weather, sightseeing, adventure, cost, etc. Talk over honeymoon ideas with your partner, talk about locations, undertake some online research and ask your friends and family for opinions.

Visits to exclusive islands or resorts are traditionally popular, and for good reason. Such trips mean that you can spend quality time with each other whilst relaxing from the busy schedule of the previous six months and taking in beautiful surroundings.

Another option is to take a cruise; they offer an equally peaceful, relaxing experience whilst also allowing you to take in a range of destinations. Should you have a preference for a more active honeymoon, you could try a mountain resort or an adventure travel trip (such as backpacking or a safari).

As for honeymoon locations, these are some of the most popular: Argentina, Australia, Bahamas, Bali, Belize, Bermuda, Brazil, Canada, Caribbean, Central & South Africa, Chile, Costa Rica, Ecuador, Egypt, Fiji, France, French Polynesia, Greece, Hawaii, Italy, Kenya, Madagascar, Maldives, Mauritius, Mexico, Morocco, New Zealand, Seychelles, Spain, Thailand.

Whatever kind of honeymoon and location you decide on, look to book it a minimum of six months beforehand to ensure that you'll have the pick of the rooms, and can start planning for your time away. Ask if there is a special honeymoon package available to enhance your time away; romantic extras like the honeymoon suite, champagne and bouquets of flowers will make your time away more memorable still.

As soon as your hotel is arranged, starting researching and booking restaurant seats, tickets, tours, and various other activities that require advance reservations, particularly so should you be going on your honeymoon during peak season.

Your overall objective should be to make your honeymoon different to an ordinary vacation. In addition to standard vacation items, try taking some fun extras with you, such as romantic music, candles, bubble bath, massage lotion and lingerie. Also, be sure to take a video camera and pocket camera with you, as it'll be a time that you'll want to remember forever.
