Booking & Preparing For Your Honeymoon

By: Roger Hunt

Your honeymoon should be a special time of bonding and relaxation. Yet, failing to appropriately plan it can lead to it being stressful and frustrating. Below are some tips to apply to ensure that your honeymoon goes as well as possible.

The most important thing to do is to discuss with your fiance each others preferences in relation to the honeymoon. Do not presume that you already know the type of honeymoon they would prefer. Discuss thoroughly location, accommodation and budget. Both of you should first create your own list of preferences and you should then compare and highlight aspects that overlap.

Travel agents can be of great assistance with planning a honeymoon and can advise you based on you and your spouse's preferences. Honeymoons are one of the few areas that they still earn a commission on booking, meaning that they will commonly go out of their way to help you.

After you have consulted with a travel agent and have an idea of the likely cost, make a savings plan and begin putting a money aside for it each week. You could additionally ask the travel agent if they offer a honeymoon registry service, that allows guests to pay a portion of your honeymoon costs.

Try to prepay as much as possible. Minor expenses such as tips and souvenirs, are of little concern, however, if you forget to budget for extra luggage, spa treatments, or car rental, you can easily find yourselves worrying about money whilst away.

Having booked and budgeted your money, you only need to pack your suitcases. Do this at least a week before departing as it will be one less thing to concern yourself with in the hectic run up to your wedding. The later you leave it, the greater chance there is of you leaving something behind.
