By: Resa Heart

When planning a wedding, many couples are on a budget and must keep costs down... especially during this tough economy. The cost of wedding photos is a significant expenditure which, left unchecked, could easily cost thousands of dollars. After all, when it comes to keeping your wonderful memories of the day sharp years after the wedding, there is nothing like having a gorgeous photo album to look at. However, with just a bit of effort,, you will be pleasantly surprised by the amount of money that you can save without any reduction in the quality of your photo memories.

First, hire a professional who is willing to sell you the proofs of thephotographs. It may seem strange to you that the photographs are of your wedding party but the law is that the photographer has the rights to them. It's copyright law. You can't copy them without the photographer's permission. Consequently, buying the proofs means you now own the photographs and can replicate them as you wish.

Another suggestion is to wait to make your photo package selection - just reserve the photographer and pay any retainer he/she requests. Then have friends and family members to look over the proofs, deciding on which photos they want. You can compile all the individual requests into a list and pick the option that is the best match to the list. You won't have a lot costly one-off photos to order with this approach.

Often costs mount quickly when you retain the professional photographer take both the stills and shoot a video. This requires more of his/her staff and will drive up your costs. Instead hire the photographer to take the still photos only. Have a friend who's hobby is taking videos to shoot your wedding as his/her wedding gift. Lastly, consider having low cost toss away cameras at your wedding for your guests to take candid photos. Increase the excitement by having a sharpie that the guest can write his or her name on the camera and have a lighthearted contest for the most romantic with a modest gift as the reward. You'll get hundreds pictures many of which you'll put in your photo album and enjoy always.
