Honeymoon Registry - Your Honeymoon as Wedding Gift

By: Chrissy Defour

A wedding or bridal registry is a system designed by department stores so engaged couples are able to manage the purchase of wedding gifts. The couple creates a list of desired items available at the store, then the list is made available to wedding guests. As soon as a gift is purchased, the list is updated so that the item is no longer available for purchase by other guests. This to prevent that a single gift is bought multiple times. It's a win-win situation for both the couple and the guests. The guests are sure they bought something the couple will value.

The idea of wedding registries has been extended to include honeymoons. Things and activities a couple will typically pay for on a honeymoon can be included on a honeymoon registry. In the same way as a wedding registry, the couple simply let their guests know about it. This way the guests can help the couple make their well-deserved dream trip.

However, unlike typical wedding registries, some honeymoon registries do cost up front. The arrangements differ widely, though. In some cases a flat fee is charged. In others, a percentage to anyone purchasing a listed gift for the honeymoon couple.

These charges cover the costs honeymoon registry services are making to get the best deals with tour operators, hotel chains and airlines.

The choices of things and activities to include on a honeymoon registry are endless.

It may be a couples massage on the beach. Or it could be a dolphin experience the couple always dreamt of. Scuba lessons, golf lessons and much more may be part of a honeymoon registry. The list is only limited by the couples' imagination.

Sometimes guests who have chosen a gift from the registry only pay a deposit. The full amount is then paid afterwards when the couple has used the gift.

Don't forget to read the fine print as it may strongly differ from service to service. Find out what happens when you do not take advantage of some of the paid registry gifts during your honeymoon. Can you still take advantage of those gifts after your honeymoon?

Purchased registry gifts may expire too. In that case the money minus fees may or may not be returned. There is nothing wrong with it. It's up to you to read the contract carefully and if it's not included ask for it.

While sometimes honeymoon registries may use higher prices compared to the prices at the hotel's or airline's online website, a honeymoon registry remains a convenient way to offer the new married couple a gift they will value!
