How To Get Married Cheaply

By: Kay Brown

It is incredible just how much money a wedding costs these days; with an average day costing around 25,000 dollars it accounts for why the industry is worth an astonishing 25 billion dollars annually. It may feel as if you must have an expensive wedding or miss out, this is not the case as huge savings can be made without sacrificing that much; carried out properly, the majority of guests will not even realize they have attended a 'cheap wedding'. Savings can be made in almost every area if you follow just a few of the ideas presented here; which should make for an exciting, memorable day without the financial pain.

Cheap Bridal Gown

That hand-made wedding dress is going to be the most costly individual item; Many brides spend two to three thousand dollars (often more) on a wedding dress and only wear it once; why not make use of a beautiful dress that someone else has only worn once, for a fraction of the cost?

The Reception

The largest single cost is that of the wedding reception but even here savings are possible; with an average of just under two hundred guests attending it is easy to see how you can reduce the financial burden for your cheap wedding. Reducing the number of people who attend, including distant relatives or friends you haven't been in contact with for years, will help enormously; you can even carry out some of the catering yourself and have a hot and cold buffet style meal instead of a four courses.

If you intend holding the wedding reception in an expensive hotel then stop and look at the available options; consider holding it at a club perhaps or even book a restaurant where you can keep an open bar to a minimum by only serving beer, wine and soft drinks.

Wedding Photographs and Photographers

Although many photographers are employed for the entire day, this isn't really necessary; the majority of guests are more than happy to take photos on behalf of the couple, and they will be 'natural' shots as well! If you really want to be 'avant guard', why pay for a photographer at all; these days most people know someone who is a keen, capable amateur photographer, and there is nothing wrong with asking them to take photos throughout the whole day.

Print At Home Personalized Wedding Invites

It is also easy to save money on your wedding by designing and printing all your own stationery; with a good computer program and a home printer it is amazing how professional the results are these days. The quality of printers available combined with sophisticated programs means it is quite easy to do; in fact very professional looking results can be achieved on a home computer.

The Wedding Flowers

Flowers can be another expensive outlay especially with the alternatives that are available; why not buy wholesale flowers, or pick flowers from your garden and buy plain gold or white gold bands as these are the least costly. If you have one of your friends make the wedding cake you can save some serious money; there probably won't be any need for five or six tiers either just as an alternative to the traditional fruit filling could be tried instead.

Transportation for the Wedding Day

As a last cost saving measure, ask a friends or a relation who has a nice car to decorate it and use it instead of a limousine; I'll bet he or she would be more than happy.

Measures like this could mean that the savings made on a cheap wedding can be invested else where, like a new home; now that is something that will last much longer.
