Money Saving Advice to use for Your Wedding

By: Mae Summerville

In uncertain economic times like these everyone is trying to save money or spend less than they normally would. Many times you can still have the wedding you have always dreamed of but at a much lower cost than you originally budgeted. I have some common sense ideas of things you can do to save money on your big day.

* Kill the flower centerpieces. While incredibly beautiful they are also very expensive and there are a lot of much lower cost alternatives that look fabulous. Get on the web and look around. Start by going to any search engine and typing in wedding centerpieces. You will get literally thousands of ideas and tips on making a fabulous centerpiece. Floating candles are a great way to decorate a table. Depending on the type of bowl you use you can get these at your local dollar store for a very reasonable price.

* Make your own wedding invitations instead of having them printed. There are lots of websites that will enable you to print your own invitations. Again go to your favorite search engine and type in do it yourself wedding invitations. You will be shocked at what a beautiful invitation you can do yourself.

* Make your own minister. Your friend can get on the net and easily become a certified minister. Usually it just involves a small fee.

* Dont buy a fancy guestbook. Use a nice coffee table book and let your guests sign in on a book you may actually use one day.

* Consider renting many of your items instead of buying them. Visit your local rental store and look and see what can be rented for your wedding. Common items include tables, chairs, linens, and even your punch bowl.

* Set up large decorative jars or bowls full of candy at your exit doors. These make a wonderful alternative to wedding favors. Just have a small table with the bowl and a scoop and some small paper cups so your guests can enjoy them as they leave.

* Ask your family and friends if they have any of the items you need for your wedding. Do not be afraid to ask if you can borrow them for your wedding. Most will feel complimented that you find their item good enough to feature in your wedding.

* Dont get a multi-tiered wedding cake. Get a smaller cake or even cupcakes for your guests. These usually can be bought cheaper at your local bakery.

* Enlist your friends to be your photographer. With the digital cameras today find a friend who has a knack for taking pictures and ask if they would act as your wedding photographer. Also find a friend to shoot the wedding video.

* Shop around and haggle to get a lower cost venue. Also see if any friends have sufficient property that can host a wedding and a reception. Even consider a state park.

* Don't plan to serve dinner at the reception. Small finger sandwiches and other munchies are very popular with people and are much lower cost than a full sit down meal. Also try mid afternoon for your wedding when people are not that hungry.

Your wedding day is possibly the most important day of your life. It should be awesome. Hopefully you can incorporate some of these tips so that you can have a wedding that you want at a cost you can afford.
