Tips For Choosing Your Wedding Hair Style

By: Anne Michaels

Are you having trouble choosing the right wedding hair style? If so, then you're not alone. Many women have difficulty deciding on a style for their wedding.

You're not just worried about looks when you pick out a hairstyle for your big day. It's also important to find one that'll be comfortable all day long, goes with the theme of the wedding and the location, and doesn't break your budget. If that sounds intimidating, here are a few tips to help you find the perfect style.

First, remember to begin early by collecting photos you like. They'll help you decide what kinds of styles you prefer and rule out ones you dislike.

Be realistic when you choose these photos. It's a poor idea to make a drastic change right before the wedding, so if you're thinking about a big color change or length change, do these early and get used to the idea. It's a good idea to look for wedding hair styles meant for the same general length and type of hair you already have.

Getting the perfect style can be easier if you know your face shape. That way, you'll be able to rule out styles that don't suit you. Not sure what shape your face is? Take a look in the mirror and analyze things.

If just looking doesn't help, measure your cheekbones, jaw line, and forehead widths, as well as the length of your face. If you're having trouble taking measurements, trace your face on a mirror.

If you have a forehead and jaw line that are narrower than your cheekbones, but about the same width, your face is the ideal egg shape. That means you can wear almost any wedding hairstyle you choose.

Round faces, ones with little difference between length and cheekbone measurements, are a little tougher. The right style will make your face look longer. Long styles below chin length or short styles cut above the chin will help, but short curly styles or tightly pulled back ones should be avoided.

A heart shaped face has a narrow jaw and wide forehead. To counteract this, think about a chin length bob balanced with curls. Avoid styles that are slicked back or have a lot of fullness around the forehead.

If you have width and length measurements that are all very close to one another, you have a square face. Soften your wedding hair style with layers, or wear long hair past your shoulders. You may be flattered by a side swept fringe, but don't get a geometric cut.

Think about your comfort level when you pick a wedding hair style, too. You should wear a style that's appropriate for the environment, whether your wedding is inside or outside. If you're uncomfortable with tight updos or your hair trailing on your shoulders, take this into account.

You'll be wearing your wedding hairstyle for hours, so it's important to be comfortable in it. If you can, spend some time before the wedding getting used to the style, so you'll look and feel your best.
