Tips on Outdoor Weddings

By: Gloria Philips

The outdoors can be used as a lovely backdrop for any wedding but in order to have the perfect day you might want to make yourself aware of a few simple, yet important, tips. Everything involving an outdoor wedding will revolve around the season in which you to get married in. Warmer weather requires keeping guests comfortable and cool. Be sure and keep plenty of cold hydrating liquids available to cover the needs of the attendants. Too much soda-pop or alcohol can lead to dehydration which may cause problems in the long run.

Food needs to be planned with thought to the outdoor temperature. Make sure and avoid any foods that need to stay cold if you are planning to have your wedding in the spring and summer months or in a warm location. It is okay to have food that must stay warm as long as you have cold drinks for your guests. Make sure you have plenty of covers for your dishes to keep pests away and food fresher through out the day. Ask your caterer or plan to have others help you out with food by keeping an eye out and making sure the food stays covered up after guests are done being served.

The sun can lead to terrible sunburns and that can in turn lead to misery. Think about renting a tent or canopy to protect yourself and your guests from the sun's rays. This not only helps prevent sunburns but it also keeps the sun out of everyone's eyes and keeps them cooler while they are in the shade. Tents and canopies also add a touch of elegance to any wedding style. Not only can you seat your guests under them during the wedding ceremony but you can also place your seating under them as well.

While outdoor weddings mean less usage of decorations it is still nice to add your own personal touch to the scene. If you plan on having your outdoor wedding in the later hours, try purchasing some luminaries. This adds a soft glow to any wedding scene. To shed more light on the situation, it is recommended that you use either citronella candles or torches. Not only do you benefit from the extra added romance of the light but this will also help keep bugs away from your guests which may cause them some discomfort. Place something eye catching at the front of the crowd so that you and you're loved one stand out when you are saying your vows. A decorated arched trellis works nicely for this purpose and can be purchased at a fairly low price.

Finally, be sure and plan you and your wedding party's hair style and clothing ahead of time. No one wants to hold their dress down or keep a hand up to their hair throughout the entire reception. Research various updos for your hair style. Avoiding leaving your hair down means that you won't have to worry about strands of hair being blown in your face throughout the day. Using a light spritz of hair spray can help hold your hair in place. Avoiding light materials which can easily be blown around is also a key part to any outdoor wedding so instead look into heavier fabrics. If you are worried about you or your wedding party being to hot in heavy dresses, ask your local vendors about shorter cut dresses available in these fabrics and perhaps an off the shoulder gown to prevent over-heating. With these tips in mind you should be well on your way to having a beautiful and enjoyable outdoor wedding.
