Wedding Favors on a Shoestring Budget

By:

You want each of your guests to take away more than memories of your special day, but you also have a budget to keep in mind. Can you have a beautiful display of take home favors that won't break the bank? Yes, you can have fabulous wedding favors on a shoestring budget.

Think outside the season. Candy is a favorite as a favor. Chocolate keeps for nearly forever. After Valentine's Day buy small heart boxes of candy at a substantial discount. No one will think you're being cheap they'll just think you're clever. The red, pink and white boxes on a gaily festooned table will be breathtaking.

If your wedding colors are Spring or Fall colored, many candy manufacturers wrap their chocolates (Hershey Kisses come to mind) in seasonal colors. Buy bags the day after the holiday and save for your wedding festivities. Chocolate will keep fresh for six months at room temperature. Make sure it's sealed tightly in a zip lock bag. Don't put it in the refrigerator. The chocolate will start to separate and take on a grayish - brownish cast. The flavor isn't affected but it does look odd after it's unwrapped.

Hard candy is another alternative. It has a long shelf life and is manufactured in lots of different seasonal colors and shapes.

Easter candy comes in pastel colors. Buy foil wrapped or sugar candy coated. However say away from egg and bunny shapes that's a dead giveaway it's Easter candy.

Nursery plants come in six packs for about $2.00. Transplant each small plant in its own clay pot. Take small white cards on which you've had printed your names and the saying "Watch Our Love Grow" or a similar sentiment. Hot glue to a wood stick festooned with a bow. Each guest takes a flower pot on their way home. If you don't want to go through the trouble of repotting the plants, use a package of flower seeds instead. Insert into the pot with the little card and bow.

Instead of a huge wedding cake, have a small cake for the cake cutting ceremony. Each guest receives a heart shaped sugar cookie with the date and your names in icing. Wrap each cookie in a cellophane bag tied with ribbons in your wedding colors. You can add confections, bonbons, sugared nuts, even jelly beans to the gift bag augment the cookie. You'll avoid the expense of a wedding cake and your guests will have a lovely wedding favor.

Be creative and you can have fabulous wedding favors on a shoestring budget.
