Wedding Party Decor: A Whole New World

By: Jenni Rowenby

As a bride, it is your right to have a memorable wedding day. Friends and family should share in your joy, so much that they remember your special day for many years to come. Juggling different combinations of flowers, colors and decorations, offers you a fair amount of possibilities. But when you start with wedding party decor, a whole new world opens up, and changes the picture completely.

Although it is important to create an atmosphere of joy in the church, or wherever the actual ceremony will be held, your guests' attention is mostly drawn to the actual proceedings, and of course your dress. Most of their time will be spent at the reception venue, and this is where the lasting impression will be created. If you think back to the weddings you have attended, you will find that most of the memories stored are from receptions.

Using wedding party decor, you will be able to establish a theme, and break away from what is "the usual wedding reception". Creating a theme costs more, so be prepared to spend a bit, unless you are able to borrow some of it.

Be careful when you decide upon a theme. Being specific usually makes it easier to bring your ideas across, and to materialize them. Instead of opting for a garden theme, you would be better off working at creating a "spring flower" garden theme. The latter, being more specific, will make it easier to make decisions on pieces.

Next, have a good look at the venue. Can the lighting be adjusted to complement your theme? If not, you will have to come up with alternatives, or you will have to choose between the venue and the theme. Bright light could lay to waste all efforts to create an atmosphere. Similarly, see if the layout presents any bottlenecks. Picture the lines along which guests will be walking regularly, and plan accordingly.

Thirdly, create a centerpiece, and work from there. It could be an unusual wedding cake, or a striking painting, or a collection of old family pictures set into striking frames, or a massive bouquet, or it could be the string quartet you hired. You simply have to have something that will stand out, and attract attention. And it has to be in a location where it will catch the eye of every person in the room. The theme for your wedding party decor has to be built around a central attraction.

Having a visible, consistent theme throughout your wedding party decor will create a visual perception that will set your wedding apart from many others. You will be able to create an air of sophistication and style that will have your guests taking note, and remember your wedding for years to come.
